Welcome to the second issue of my newsletter. Don't forget to check out my monthly photo blog www.itookphotos.blogspot.com.
This year I have been trying to go to as many regional shows/festivals that I can. This month I went to the Penrith regional show, which is about an hour outside of Sydney. Full disclosure, I grew up in the suburbs around Penrith and my family still lives there so I know the area quite well. I have to say though, it sucked!!! There where to many people trying to sell spas and dented white goods and not enough cows and scones. I am really looking forward to the Robertson Show as they have had in the past a demolition derby as well as hay stacking and the usual cows, poultry etc. Now that is a show but unfortunately it is not until March next year. www.robertsonshow.org.au.
I have a feeling by now that everyone on twitter would already know about it but the new video by the awesome band Arcade Fire is amazing. Try it here www.thewildernessdowntown.com. It is such a simple idea (with some great technology) that is executed brilliantly. It is one of those ideas that will make you want to give up, or strive to do better in the future.
Also I have a group show coming up in Vancouver, Canada this month. The show is being put on by the great website booooooom and it is the second time it has been shown with the first time being earlier this year in Hong Kong. If you are in the area check it out as it is quite a good show with over 100 photographers being exhibited in the space. www.booooooom.com.
Till next month thanks for taking the time to read , look or whatever you did. Cheers, Josh. |

BOOK
"The novel of the century" well according to the guardian in the UK is Jonathon Franzen's Freedom. I am really looking forward to this as The Corrections, like a lot of people, is in the top 5 of my fav books. Check out the review here www.guardian.co.uk.
EXHIBITION
The Dream Home exhibition at the Australian Centre of Photography looks like it could be interesting. Some great names and an interesting topic that for one reason or another we all seem to be interested in, www.acp.org.au. Also can someone bring this to Australia, the Alec Soth exhibition at the Walker Art Centre in the states. www.walkerart.org.
MUSIC
The Changing Lanes Festival in Newtown, Sydney. This is a great idea because (a) it is right near where I live and (b) is such a great fundraiser event for the FBi radio station. Check it out here www.fbiradio.com. |
